US Appeals Court Rejects American Airlines’ Bid to Overturn Ruling on JetBlue Partnership
A US appeals court has rejected an attempt by American Airlines to overturn a judge’s decision that found its Northeast Alliance with JetBlue to be anticompetitive. This decision aligns with the US Department of Justice (DOJ), which had argued that the partnership restricted competition in the northeastern United States, ultimately disadvantaging consumers. The Northeast Alliance, which American Airlines and JetBlue had formed to expand their route networks and coordinate services, has now been officially scrapped in light of the antitrust concerns raised by the DOJ and supported by the court.
