Garuda Indonesia Cancels A330-800 Order, Leaving Only One Pending

Airbus’s A330-800 program faces further challenges as Garuda Indonesia reportedly canceled its order for four aircraft, reducing the global backlog to just one remaining delivery. Originally intended as a replacement for the successful A330-200, the A330-800 has struggled with demand, partly due to its narrow customer base and the higher capacity appeal of its sibling, the A330-900. Garuda, which initially signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) for the A330-800 in 2019, opted to pivot to alternative widebody leasing options, reflecting the airline’s changing fleet requirements amid evolving market conditions.
