Madagascar Arrests 22 in Boeing 777 Smuggling Scandal

Madagascar’s Ministry of Justice has arrested 22 individuals linked to the illegal transfer of five Boeing 777-200 wide-body aircraft to Iran in July 2025. Among those detained are senior officials from the country’s Civil Aviation Authority, individuals tied to India-based Udaan Aviation, and employees of several local companies. The arrests follow allegations of forgery and corruption that enabled Iranian carriers—restricted by Western sanctions—to acquire additional aircraft through covert channels.
