This transaction reflects the continued leasing activity between airlines and lessors as carriers look to expand or replace fleets without the burden of upfront capital expenditure. WestJet, seeking cost-effective growth, continues to leverage such financial structures as it integrates newer 737 MAX models into its fleet.
In a separate transaction, Aircastle also completed its eleventh purchase leaseback of a Boeing 737-9 with United Airlines, marking a continued partnership between the lessor and the major US carrier. These repeated transactions underscore United’s confidence in Aircastle’s leasing capabilities and commitment to leveraging sale-leaseback structures as part of its broader fleet strategy.
The B737-8 and B737-9, both part of Boeing’s MAX series, are popular among airlines for their fuel efficiency and improved range. Leasebacks of these aircraft types remain attractive due to high passenger demand and the aircrafts’ favorable economics.
Aircastle’s continued activity in narrowbody leasing, particularly with high-demand MAX variants, strengthens its portfolio value and positions it as a key player in mid-tier global aircraft leasing.
